Stair Chair Lift
When mom died last winter, we had to make a decision about papa. I’m an only child and there’s no one else to look after him. My husband and I both knew he wouldn’t be able to life on his own. Papa has early onset Alzheimer’s and sometimes he forgets things, like that the stove is on or that the water in the bathtub is running. He also has mobility issues and can’t walk very well without his cane. After a few family discussions, we decided that papa should come and live with us. We knew he didn’t want to spend his remaining years surrounded by strangers in a nursing home. We also knew that nobody cares for him more than we do. But first we had to make a few minor changes. To begin with we knew it was important that we have a stair chair lift installed.
Papa has a hard time getting up the stairs these days and we were all afraid that he might trip and fall. A stair chair lift was the logical answer to all our questions and concerns. A few days before he came to stay, my husband and I went shopping for a stair chair lift. We found many great models from which to choose. The one we ended up buying was powered by batteries, so there is no trailing cable that people might trip over. It also has a nice smooth ride and can be easily controlled by the operator. When the stair chair lift is not in use, it can be folded up to provide more space on the staircase.
Installation was a breeze. The store we purchased our star chair lift from sent a professional technician out to our home and he fitted the metal railings that the chair rides on to our staircase. It only took him a little over two hours to complete the entire job.
When papa came to stay with us he was happy to see that we had installed a stair chair lift. He had one in his own home and knew how reliable they were. Papa uses the new stair chair lift just about every day and has no trouble operating it; and now we don’t have to worry about him slipping and falling on our steep staircase.
